With “Your Own Story”, Rising Alma return with an EP built on honesty, resilience, and emotional depth. Blending melodic hard rock with alternative influences, the Berlin-based band opens up about the personal experiences behind the songs, the importance of staying true to their artistic vision, and the journey that shaped their latest release.

Your Own Story is described as an emotionally driven listening experience. What was the main inspiration behind the EP and its overall concept?

– We started writing these songs during a challenging season in our lives. Every song we write comes from an honest place while also offering a sense of hope for us and the listener.

The title Your Own Story suggests a personal and relatable journey. What message do you hope listeners will take away from these five songs?

– We always try to give a realistic view of life around us but still question if everything we see is what we should believe in. The EP doesn’t hide the fact that life can be tough, and everyone goes through difficult chapters but we believe that our job as an artist is to uplift and look behind the noise. Through these songs, we wanted to remind ourselves and anyone listening that every person’s story is unique. As long as you stay true to yourself and keep moving forward, there is always hope, even in the darkest moments. Everyone has the ability to shape their own story and create something meaningful with their life, regardless of where they come from or the challenges they face. We believe that idea is both inspiring and powerful.

How does this new EP differ from your previous album Cracking The Moment in terms of songwriting, sound, and artistic direction?

– The biggest difference is probably the overall emotional weight and expressiveness of the songs. This EP captures a specific period in our lives, and we wanted to preserve that feeling throughout the entire release. While our previous albums may have been more dynamic in terms of mood and direction, this EP was built around a more consistent emotional atmosphere.
As always, we poured ourselves into every song and worked hard to make each one sound as strong and authentic as possible. At the same time, it was important for us to maintain the natural sound that we believe strongly represents our music. Rather than reinventing ourselves, we focused on expressing these emotions in the most honest and genuine way we could.

The EP blends melodic hard rock with alternative rock elements. How did you approach balancing heaviness, atmosphere, and melody throughout the record?

– A big part of achieving that balance comes naturally through the way we write music together. Máximo always brings guitar parts that feel interesting and dynamic, making it easy for a song to move between heavier and more atmospheric moments. Alīse adds a lot of vulnerability through her vocals and has a great ability to transition from softer, more intimate passages to powerful and expressive singing. Those contrasts create a natural dynamic that allows the music to feel both emotional and powerful at the same time. We also let the songs develop naturally and follow what feels right emotionally.

Each song is said to have its own identity while contributing to a larger narrative. Can you tell us more about the themes explored across the five tracks?

– We believe that every album or EP represents a creative season in our lives, so it feels more like a chapter than just a collection of songs. That’s just how we see it. Across the five songs, we explore themes such as honesty, perseverance, dreams, friendship, disappointment, work, pain, destiny, and the challenges that come with growing and changing as a person and more.

Strong melodic vocals and expressive guitar work seem to be key elements of the EP. Which aspects of the band’s sound did you focus on developing during the recording process?

– Strong vocals and expressive guitar work have always been a big part of our sound because that’s how we usually start writing the music with guitar and vocal ideas. During the recording process, though, we focused on every aspect of the songs because we believe everything contributes to the final result. Our goal was to achieve a sound that feels modern but still natural and authentic. We wanted every element, from the guitars and vocals to the production itself, to serve the emotion of the songs.

The production aims to maintain a natural and authentic feel. Why was it important for you to preserve that emotional honesty in the final recordings?

– If you follow us as a band, you’ll notice that we’ve always tried to stay true to ourselves and maintain our natural identity, both as musicians and as people. That same philosophy naturally carries over into our music and the way we approach recording.

We grew up listening to music that wasn’t heavily processed, and we still love that approach today. For us, emotional honesty is one of the most important aspects of music. We wanted the recordings to capture the real emotions behind the songs rather than polish them away. Keeping the sound natural and authentic allows the message of the music to come through in the most genuine way possible.

Your Own Story explores themes of vulnerability, strength, and personal growth. Were there any particular life experiences that influenced the lyrics and music?

– As we mentioned before, the period leading up to this EP was quite challenging for us, and many of those experiences found their way into the lyrics and music. During that time, we learned a lot about ourselves, our relationships, and the realities of pursuing music.

One thing that particularly influenced the songs was the feeling that genuine work and creativity are not always appreciated or given the attention they deserve. We also experienced situations that taught us how important it is to stay in control of your art and be careful about who you trust with it. One of the songs touches on that idea how easy it is to become trapped if you place your work in the wrong hands, and how important it is to share what truly matters to you with the world.

At the same time, these experiences also reinforced the themes of perseverance, self-belief, and staying true to your own path, which are central to the EP as a whole.

As an independent release, what challenges and opportunities did you encounter while creating and preparing this EP for release?

– We’re very grateful that we’re able to do everything ourselves. While it requires a lot of time and effort, we’re happy to invest that into our music because it allows us to bring our vision to life exactly the way we want. We have gained some good friends, collaborations through the years and that helps us to spread the word.

With Your Own Story arriving on July 24, what are your expectations for this release, and what can fans look forward to from Rising Alma in the months ahead?

– We hope that these songs resonate with listeners as much as they resonate with us. We only create music that feels deeply meaningful and important to us, so our main expectation is simply that people connect with it and find something of their own within these songs.

In the months ahead, we’ll continue creating content around the EP and bringing the songs to the stage through live shows in Berlin and across Germany.
