Rock Attitude<\/strong> had a little chat with Dave D.R.<\/strong>, the man behind Immortalizer<\/strong>. Read more to the interesting interview that follows.<\/p>\n

In your own words, how would you describe Immortalizer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Immortalizer is a mix classic style Heavy Metal and contemporary Metal. I\u2019ve been obsessed with the classic Metal era since childhood, so there\u2019s a lot of those influences in my music. So, in other words, it\u2019s modern day Metal with a vintage feel to it.<\/em><\/p>\n

How did you start the band?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Immortalizer got started a few years after I started my solo career. My fellow bandmates went on to other things but I wasn\u2019t ready to give up. So, I began going through all my demos and began recording from home. I decided to start my own band but I needed a name. While writing new material I wrote a song called The Immortalizer and it immediately resonated, and so Immortalizer was born!<\/em><\/p>\n

Who were you musical influences to start with the band?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 I\u2019ve been influenced by a lot of bands over the years, but Judas Priest, Mot\u00f6rhead, Saxon and Primal Fear were & are definitely the most impactful on me. But other bands like Dio, Iron Maiden, Michael Schenker, Helloween, Kiss and Metallica were also super influential. The full list would be far too long, but it\u2019s safe to say I learned a lot from all my favourite bands!<\/em><\/p>\n

What is your aim with Immortalizer?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 My first priority is writing the best material I possibly can to make Immortalizer as great as it can be. I also want to give fans something a little different than what is mostly out there these days. I\u2019m also going to keep searching for the right label and management company and put a really solid band together. Then we can develop Immortalizer even further and one day tour the world!!<\/em><\/p>\n

Your singing style is very accessible! Is this conscious or unconscious?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Thank you, I really appreciate that! I\u2019ve been singing for over 20 years now. I didn\u2019t have any formal training until recently, so I mostly just developed my vocals naturally over time. Especially through performing. It wasn\u2019t until I started working with Ralf Scheepers of Primal Fear that I really started to develop my vocal abilities. Ralf really knows his stuff and is an excellent teacher! (Thanks for all your help Ralf!!) A few fans have compared my voice to that of James Hetfield which was a huge compliment! In the end I just try to always give it my all when I\u2019m recording or performing. It means a lot that others enjoy it.<\/em><\/p>\n

\"DaveIn your new song \"Lemmy\", the style is even more catchier than before. What do you think and do you plan a full album in the near future?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 As a huge Mot\u00f6rhead fan I really wanted to pay Lemmy the best tribute I could, so I tried to think of what he would have enjoyed. The song came together rather quickly, but the vocals took some time. Phil Campbell from Mot\u00f6rhead gave it a like, which really meant a lot to me! It was super encouraging. (Thanks Phil!!) I\u2019m definitely planning on releasing a full length album as soon as I can. For the time being I\u2019m doing everything myself, which is time consuming, so things take longer, but it\u2019s a labor of love. I\u2019m going to keep releasing singles as I go as well.<\/em><\/p>\n

Are you going to change your musical style on the future recordings?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Well, it\u2019s taken me years to develop my own sound and style, so it\u2019ll likely stay relatively similar as the years go by, but there\u2019s no doubt that once the full band comes together things might change a bit, but overall I plan on keeping things steady while still leaving room to grow as a band.<\/em><\/p>\n

Your melodies are really catchy! How do you work the composition?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Thank you very much! I learned a lot from my favourite bands when it comes to writing catchy music. I want my music to grip people and stick with them, even after the song is over. My preferred method is writing songs and lyrics while jamming on guitar, and as I play I start to hear the full orchestration in my head. I later use those mental notes to craft the whole song. When songs get stuck in my head, especially several days later, I know I\u2019m on to something good. Writing catchy music isn\u2019t easy, but if you really work hard at it you can create great hooks that people will connect with. Having solid vocals is a big part of it as well.<\/em><\/p>\n

What about live performances? Do you enjoy being on stage?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 Absolutely! I adore being on stage. I still get a bit nervous beforehand, but once I start playing I get lost in it and it\u2019s a total rush! There\u2019s no feeling on earth like being in front of a cheering crowd. It\u2019s absolutely intoxicating.<\/em><\/p>\n

Is this hard to keep the band flowing along with your personal life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 It is a bit challenging at times, but I\u2019m lucky to have a very supportive woman who believes in Immortalizer. I often lose track of time when I\u2019m writing or recording however, so I try to be mindful of that. Haha.<\/em><\/p>\n
