Observing multiple points of view, even extreme ones at times, on the same problem broadens your mind and this is essential to try to create something different in music or in any other form of art. Rock Attitude had a little chat with Italian alternative metallers Hot Sunday Blood. Read more to the interview below.

Andrea, you released a great new album some months ago via Snooky Records. Do you find that the current situation promotes personalcreativity?

– First of all thanks for the appreciation of the new record. Coming to the current situation there is a double aspect to be analyzed: on one hand it does not help the creativity of the band because it is really difficult to be all together to throw down new material in a quiet way but it is undeniable that on the other hand it gives new ideas and a great boost to personal creativity. When something strong shakes me inside it always gives great personal ideas.

Hot Sunday BloodDo you find that this album is successful, until now? I see a lot of nice reviews and encouraging comments…

– "Successful" is a big word... Let's say that so far we've got an excellent response and we are really happy about it. Our only regret is that we could not support the release of the album with live shows, not even a small promotional tour. Only by bringing it onstage you can fully understand if it reaches people.

Do you think that this is important to keep a steady line-up or not? Are there any guest musicians on this album?

– In my opinion, to keep a stable training you need to avoid getting bored and having good feedback on your work allows you to be always active, giving you a great help. Yes in this album there is a collaboration with a great singer named Mosesfor some back vocals in the song Kein Licht.

Did you have the songs already in place before the album? How was the process about compositions?

– Before recording the album we had already defined almost all the song structures and most of the riffs and melodies, since we've already played some of the songs in our last live shows. When we entered the studio we just did a great job to eliminate superfluous parts or change those that didn't convince us. For the composition we like to start from the idea of a single, usually a guitar riff, and develop the song all together from there. It is also the case for this album.

You gave a unique name to your band. I just wonder what prompted that. Maybe it just seemed like a good idea at the time?

– Hard to say ... We wanted to suggest our particular mood on a particular unloved day of the week. Having “hot blood” in Italian means being agitated, without knowing where this anxiety comes from. And then we just liked how it sounded.

There are a couple of different tracks on there. Do you think it’s important to keep pushing people’s perception and ideas of what Hot Sunday Blood actually represents musically?

– I think people should be free from every kind of stigma, musically speaking, and able to judge if they like what they're listening to or not, not paying too much attention to the musical genre.

Hot Sunday BloodI read also that there are some tracks that are connected about psychological situations. Do you like to read and invest about psychology or deep feelings? Who are some of your favorite writers?

– Psychology is an aspect that has always attracted me. Understanding what a person feels deep down allows you to see the various aspects of life from another perspective. Observing multiple points of view, even extreme ones at times, on the same problem broadens your mind and this is essential to try to create something different in music or in any other form of art. There are many writers that I appreciate, but if I had to rank some of them I would choose Charles Bukowski for his sharp tongue, Ernesto Sabato for his vision of the world and Carlos Ruiz Zafon for his fantasy.

I’m just wondering if you’ve ever had any desire or ambition to maybe release an album in a different style or a different musical genre.

– Yes, absolutely! This desire of ours is so real that we have never set limits on composing an album with a precise musical style. What we like, we try to make it our own and put it in one of our songs without worrying about whether or not it is inherent to a specific musical style. Who knows, when ready we could even make a drum and bass, pop or garage album. Fantasy and possibilities have no limits.

Okay. Just a couple then to finish. Who would have been the most influential musician for you and why?

– Very difficult question ... There are too many, how can I answer? Since I have to say something I'd go for Phil Anselmo for his magnetism on stage.

You must have achieved many career goals and dreams about your life. If you still had hopes, dreams and ambitions, maybe in your career or in life that you haven’t yet fulfilled, what would they be?

– I honestly don't think that we've achieved what we aimed for in music. All our goals are still up there and, sure as hell, we'll get there. Thanks to this pandemic we'll be at least two years older once we'll get what we want.

Thank you very much for talking to me and take care. I hope to see Hot Sunday Blood on stage in the future!

Thank you for your time and support! We'll die only when (and if) the world will destroy itself!
