Interview with Veritas

Veritas will release their new album “Silent Script” on August 22 and Rock Attitude had a little chat with the US band.
Welcome to Rock Attitude! Veritas sophomore album “Silent Script” is coming out in a few days, on August 22, 2023. Now that you listen to the final product, do you think it surpassed its predecessor “Threads Of Fatality”?
– Absolutely! We are more comfortable with each others writing style and made sure to take our time to write the best songs we could.
What is the “Silent Script” concept? Are there any certain topics that dominate Veritas’ lyrics in the album?
– There isn’t a concept for the cd. The lyrics written by Denny are left up to the listener to interpret. The cover art kind of hints that lyrics/music opens a doorway to another world or experience.
Veritas is a heavy metal band with hard rock and progressive rock parts. When it comes to metal influences range from heavy and doom to power and thrash. As the main composer of the band, what is the key to blend all these different styles down to one?
– It just happens. I never sit down and try to write a certain type of song, none of us do. The music I write just comes out naturally as a blend of my influences and what I’m listening to at the time.
Veritas cooperate on drums with the famous drummer Mark Zonder. What has Mark Zonder brought to Veritas sound with his experience?
– Mark has been great. He always writes for what the song needs and not just showing of his skill constantly. He’s also very open to any changes we request but he usually nails it on the first track he sends to us.
“Silent Script” has 12 songs. Under what circumstances were these songs written?
– We are still using the same writing process as the previous cds. I record the guitar. Send it to Mark for drums. I then re-record the guitar and add layers, send it to Geno for bass and then to Denny for vocals. This has worked great so far since we live so far apart.
What is your plan for live shows to support “Silent Script”? Are there any tours or fests happening now that you’d love to play? With which bands would you like to share the stage?
– We definitely want to get out and support the new cd. We are hoping to play some festivals in the US and overseas next summer. In the US, definitely Progfest, Rocklahoma. Overseas there are so many but Wacken would be amazing. We’d love to share the stage with any of our influences and bands we grew up listening to.
The American Heavy Metal has given us monstrous bands that we would need days only to name them. What’s the current status of the American Heavy Metal? Which new bands are worth to check out?
– Sadly, I can’t think of any new American bands that I listen to. The few new bands that I like are all from overseas.
The internet has made it easier for bands to spread their music, but harder to sell records. Everyone wants music for free. What is your experience?
– Very true. Anyone can post music online, the challenge is to something that makes your music stand out from the millions of other bands. Platforms that offer to help with that basically make all the profits while the band gets very little. Illegal download sites are worse because they just give your music away for free. True fans of the bands will support the band by buying their music and merch and seeing them live.
Like said in the beginning of the interview, “Silent Script” is out on August 22, 2023. The album will be released from Sliptrick Records. Are you satisfied with the label’s work for the album? Which formats will see the light of day? Will there be a vinyl version or only cd and digital?
– Sliptrick has been very supportive so far and we’re also working with Angels PR for extra coverage. It will be released first on cd and digital. Once the first run of cds sells out we are hoping for a vinyl release if there is enough demand.
Speaking of vinyl, there seems to be a turning back to vinyl again. Do you have any plans or offers to re-release your debut album “Threads of Fatality” and even the same titled “Veritas” EP on vinyl edition?
– We would love to do a re-release of Threads of Fatality on vinyl. We’ll see what the demand is along with the new album. I’m not sure if we will ever do a vinyl for the EP.
Back to “Silent Script”. How do we pre-order the album? Where do we find Veritas merch? Thank you for the interview! Good luck with “Silent Script”! We are looking forward to it!
